About Me

Alex Willard, MSW, LCSW (she/her)

Hi there! I’m glad you’re here, and taking a step toward wellness. Life can be really overwhelming, and sometimes you need support to help you through it.

A bit about my professional path: I started my work in mental health care as a psych tech on an inpatient behavioral health unit in Western NC, while volunteering as a rape crisis advocate and full spectrum doula in my time off. From there, I pursued my Master of Social Work degree, which included a clinical internship at an inpatient substance use disorder treatment center (ADATC in Butner NC, since closed). After graduation and accruing hours toward my licensure, I worked in a detox center (Freedom House, Chapel Hill NC), until landing in a behavioral health urgent care (Carolina Outreach, Durham NC). Suffice to say, I was steeped in short-term, crisis work for the first six years of my professional life. Once fully licensed, I shifted my focus to offering outpatient therapy to adults via Duke's Psychiatric Outpatient Clinic. I spent two years there, until shifting into private practice (mid-pandemic!), where you find me now.

Outside of the resume points, I am passionate about intersectionality, dismantling diet culture, gender affirming care, making mental health care accessible for all, and reproductive justice. I am an unapologetic cat lady, enamored with the American Southwest, and have more than 60 house plants in my office.
